If you’re a renter, it’s also important to make yourself aware of any specific regulations that could put a stopper in your design plans.

For example, some rental properties may not allow you to hammer things into your walls. Additionally, you should also consider how many others live in your home and what your preferred gameplay is.

Here are the things you should keep in mind throughout the process to ensure you create an ideal setup in less time and with fewer surprises along the way.

The Space You Have to Work With For Your Gaming Setup

Working with a small bedroom already puts a limit on what you can do with the space. In addition to less square footage, you’ll also need to note the actual layout of the room.

If it’s a loft space, you’ll need to account for slanted walls or awkward corners. You’ll also need to make a mental note of the closet space of the room, if there is any. Fortunately, closet space can come in handy for small bedroom gaming room setups.

Your Overall Budget

Your Overall Budget

Before converting a small bedroom into a gaming room, you should have a good idea of what you want to do with the space you have.

Making mental notes of this will help you create a budget that will allow you to do everything you want to the room.

Your budget will also depend on what you already have.

If you already own a good gaming PC or a video game console, monitors or TVs, and other necessary items for gaming, you’re going to shave a good chunk of money off of your budget right there.

Preferred Gameplay

Are gaming desks ergonomic?

A setup for PC gaming and a setup for console gaming will look very different from each other.

With PC gaming, you need to have a gaming desk that allows enough space for your monitor, mechanical keyboard, your gaming mouse, and computer tower.

Some gamers would rather free up the desktop space so they put their gaming tower on the floor instead of on the desktop.

On the other hand, a console gaming setup requires less space as you can use a small gaming desk and really all you need is somewhere to place the console and you can mount your TV.

If you’re both a console gamer and a PC gamer, then you’ll want to create a plan for your gaming room for how you’re going to address both your PC gaming setup and your console gaming setup.

Renter Regulations

Renter Regulations

If you’re like so many you are renting your home or apartment and that comes with its own unique set of challenges.

Many rental properties are more lenient now than they have been in the past.

With that said, it’s important to know what is in your rental agreement so you avoid breaching the agreement in any way.

If your rental agreement prohibits hammering into the walls or any other permanent alterations, you’ll need to find an alternative. Going against your rental agreement will cause you to lose your deposit or pay a fine.

Others in Your Home

Others in Your Home

If you live with others, you may want to consider soundproofing the room if they aren’t into gaming.

On the other hand, living with other gamers may require all of you to work together to design a space that works for everyone.

Designing a small bedroom gaming room for use by multiple people can prove to be tricky if you don’t plan and prepare ahead of time.

But what do you do if you have multiple gamers in your home? Depending on the space available, it may be time to rethink using that small bedroom as your gaming room.

Because you have multiple people that are going to be part of your gaming sessions, you’ll need to allow enough space for each person’s gaming system, and for some spaces that’s just not going to work.

Other times, if you’re creative and clever enough to maximize the space that is available to you (like using your wall space creatively, utilizing different types of storage bins, etc.), then you can create a truly awesome gaming space.
